Important info: Only 5000 spaces for Machu Picchu are sold per day, be aware of booking 3 month in advance at least, for Huayna Picchu mountain only 400 people a day is allowed, so you need to book 3 month in advance and for Machu Picchu mountain 400 people a day is allowed, so you book 3 month in advance at least.

Overview:
This is the shortest time to visit this wonderful Inca site, considered the seven wonder in the world. 

On the way by bus you are able to see the highlands of Cusco, the Sacred Valley and the Urubamba river, also the train lays along the Urubamba river bank to Aguas Calientes.
After having your guided tour in Machu Picchu you can go to the mountain of Huayna Picchu ( it takes 2 hours ) or go to Machu Picchu mountain ( it takes 3 and a half hours, you can also go to the sun gate which takes 2 and a half hours round trip or go to the Inca bridge, it is needed 1 and a half hours round trip from the Guard House).

You can start this tour just arriving to Cusco, to leave towards Aguas Calientes the same day in the afternoon being the shortest time to explore all about Machu Picchu and its surroundings.

Day 1: Cusco - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes.

There are two options to leave from Cusco, You choose it carefully:

1)
Leaving by bus from Cusco at 12:45 to take the train from Ollantaytambo at 15:37, this way you get to Aguas Calientes at 17:30.

2) Leaving by bus from Cusco at 16:30 to take the train from Ollantaytambo at 19:00, so you get to Aguas Calientes at 20:45.

Driving by bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo it takes 1 hour and 45 min. and going by train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes is about the same time, you roughly need 4 hours from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, where you will sleep in a comfortable hotel located in a quiet place.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Ollantaytambo - Cusco.

The next day in the morning, it is very recommended to wake up at 4:30 am so after having breakfast you can be in line waiting for the first bus which leaves at 5:30 from Aguas Calientes, after 30 minutes driving you will get to Machu Picchu citadel.
Your guided tour starts at 6:00 until 8:30 at least visiting the most important highlights of this amazing place, afterwards you can explore through Machu Picchu or go to the mountain of Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu mountain.

Also you can go to the Sungate which takes 2 and a half hours roun trip or the Inca bridge taking 1 hour and a half round hike.
You have to reserve a space 3 month in advance if you want to go to Huayna Picchu mountain, and also add US$20, this hike takes 45 min. up and 45 min. down, getting a view from 2750 m, 9000 ft, a point 300 m, 1000 ft higher than Machu picchu citadel location.



If you want to go to Machu Picchu mountain, please reserve your space 1 month in advance and also add US$20, it takes 1 hour and 30 min. uphill and 1 hour and 30 min downhill, getting a view from 3050 m, 9986 ft, a point 600 m, 2000 ft higher than Machu Picchu citadel.
Machu Picchu citadel is located at 2450 m, 8022 ft. 


Nowadays it is allowed to stay in Machu Pichu only for 3 hours.

Your train back to Ollantaytambo leaves at 6:20 pm from Aguas Calientes (you can also leave at 14:55 from Aguas Calientes, let us know about this issue at booking time), it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to Ollantaytambo where a bus is taken for 2 hours getting to Cusco at 10:30 pm approximately  you will get off at Plaza Regocijo just 1 block away to the Plaza de Armas of Cusco.

It is much better to get to Machu Picchu as early as possible to see it  less crowded.
